Congratulations on starting the Acumen Fellowship!

At its core, the Fellows Programme is focused on developing leadership capacity to take on long-standing problems of poverty. Success is the Fellow Candidate building the tools, mindsets and community to deliver lasting change. We want to better understand your leadership journey and how the Fellows Programme can help you grow your impact.

The 2024 UK Impact Report shares an overview of how we think about impact and our starting point for this survey. As part of our impact evaluation work, we will aggregate this data to better understand the impact of the Fellowship and our Fellows across the globe. We will not use this data at the individual level, nor is it designed for comparison across Fellow Candidates.

We recognise that leadership self-assessment is messy and far from perfect (for example, the time since you last ate will have an effect on how you answer the next section), and over time we hope to move to an action-based assessment.

This survey is split into 3 sections:

1) Depth of Leadership: Designed to help you reflect and understand your leadership opportunities today and your growth.

2) Depth of Community: Designed to help you reflect and understand what would support your growth from this community, and understand the support you have recieved from the this community.

3) Amplification: Designed to better understand the amplification of your leadership and impact. We will not attribute your amplification directly back to the Fellowship.

We will also share your responses back with you as part of your Leadership Journal. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Section 1) Depth of Leadership At Acumen Academy, to enable people to be the most effective agents of social change, we strive to create brave spaces for people to develop, practice, and apply acts of leadership. The world needs us to flex, to stretch to uncomfortable levels, to build our moral imagination, to listen more deeply, to partner better, to reckon with our sense of identity, and to open ourselves up to understanding the layered inconsistencies and differing perspectives of others.

The following questions are grounded in the 12 practices of moral leadership. These 12 practices serve as the foundation of our work at Acumen Academy and of the learning products and programmes we develop.

Principle Buckets

For each of the practices of moral leadership, please select the number from 1-4 that aligns most closely with where you stand today.

Note: Your answers to these questions are confidential and will not be shared with your cohort, but will be available to you so that you can gauge where you stand, and to us so that we can understand how to best support you throughout and beyond the programme. We ask that you are honest with yourself while answering these questions.

I. REDEFINE SUCCESS WITH MORAL IMAGINATION

II. BUILD INCLUSIVE ORGANIZATIONS

III. CONNECT ACROSS LINES OF DIFFERENCE

IV. PERSIST IN THE BEAUTIFUL STRUGGLE

OTHER PRACTICES: THINKING SYSTEMICALLY

Section 2) Depth of Community

Your cohort and Acumen Academy community is one of the key pillars of your Fellowship experience, and can offer many gifts during the Fellowship and beyond. Our hope is that we can connect you with a community that accompanies, amplifies and sustains, supports and challenges you over a lifetime of driving change. The following questions ask you to reflect on your current community and levels of social capital today.

For each of element of community, please select the number from 1-4 that aligns most closely with where you stand today.

Note: Your answers to these questions are confidential and will not be shared with your cohort, but will be available to you so that you can gauge where you stand, and to us so that we can understand how to best support you throughout and beyond the programme. We ask that you are honest with yourself while answering these questions.

COMMUNITY

Receive: Over the next year, how important are the following areas of support from your cohort? We plan to share these answers with the cohort to help facilitate the matching of needs with support.

Low priority Medium priority High priority

Give: Over the next year, how could you best support your cohort?

Low capacity Medium capacity High capacity

Your Mentor or Champion

You might want to consider engaging a mentor or champion (outside of the cohort) to support your learning throughout the Fellows Programme.

Mentors can play a big role in your learning experience, helping you reflect and deepen your learning, apply the tools and practices you are learning,  and overcome any obstacles you are facing.

It is up to you whether you decide this is something you need. This might be an existing mentor, friend, partner or colleague. We encourage you to pick someone:

  • Who is invested in your learning & development, and wants to see you become an even better leader of change
  • Who you trust will not only support you, but also be direct with you and encourage you to think differently
  • Who has a different life experience to you, and can offer you a different perspective

You will manage all communications with them, but we will share some guidance with you on how to engage and leverage this relationship. This will mostly consist of checking in with them 2 or 3 times over the programme so they can ask you how it's going and what would deepen your learning.

Section 3) Amplification

Acumen Academy exists to empower role roles who have the character, community and competencies to build a world based on dignity. This final section is designed to better understand your impact.

We will not attribute your amplification directly back to the Fellowship.

Amplification of Leadership

What are some ways you plan to amplify your Fellowship learning in order to support others?

Amplification of Impact
We would like to capture more about the impact your current organisation or initiative(s) create. Please use approximate numbers where you don’t have exact numbers to hand. We appreciate that measuring the impact of complex change is not simple, especially when shifting narratives, and the below is too reductive. We also appreciate that "bigger" is not always better, and by rewarding only what we can measure, we often perpetuate systems that fail to honor what we value most. This is the start of our impact evaluation work, and we look forward to evolving this with you.

What is the impact of your current organisation/initiative(s) since inception?
Please fill out the following metrics for your organisation/initiative. Please enter a whole number. Put "0" where a statement is not applicable or unknown.
